Bantry Marine Research Station Ltd. announced in May 2019, the completion of an investment project with a total investment of €541,345.51. The project was part funded by the Irish Government and the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund under the Sustainable Aquaculture Development Scheme and was administered by Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), Ireland's Seafood Development Agency.
"The assistance we received from BIM through the European Maritime Fisheries Fund has been instrumental in allowing us to develop a robust pilot level study on the culture of lumpfish. This investment has enabled us to enhance our infrastructure and improve our facility and our research capabilities. This funding will allow us to progress our endeavours over the next number of years, contributing to the local economy and undertake applied aquaculture research in line with EU and National development strategy. BMRS employ's fifteen full time scientific and technical personnel."
