Biorefine Conference - ‘The role of biorefineries in European agriculture’

BMRS attended the Biorefine conference 'The role of biorefineries in European agriculture' (30 & 31 May 2022)' in Ghent Belgium.  At this event Julie Maguire Phd Presented ' Value Chain of European Seaweed' under the category of Value chain assessment of waste-to-bioenergy and bioproducts solutions and Priya Pollard, ESR 7 on the Agrefine project presented a poster entitled 'Ensiling kelps for downstream biochemical extraction'. The Conference was aimed at highlighting the current research innovations in the six main Biorefine's domains related to the sustainable resource management in the framework of circular economy systems.

Priya is part of the Agrefine project and investigates a novel seaweed-ensiling process as an alternative to drying to preserve the nutritional and monetary value of seaweed. This research fits into a novel biorefinery centred on a circular economy as it address the shortcomings and overcome the weaknesses that current stand-alone AD and biorefinery technologies possess.
